It was nothing more or less than the abrupt end of that lovely summer feeling.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Living in a big city, far away from nature and the elements, the change of seasons didn\u2019t mean much more than putting away the clothes of the past season and going window-shopping to check out the newest fashion trends.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Today I understand that <strong>the lack of connection with the land saddens us<\/strong> because we are not able to see and appreciate something as simple and extraordinary, magical and beautiful, as, for example, <strong>the harvest of the fruits<\/strong> we eat.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Everything seems so obvious. You just have to head to the &#8220;supermarket&#8221; and you\u2019ll find everything perfectly packed and exposed to facilitate your task. All is done for you not to have to move, get your hands dirty, or get bitten by annoying insects.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Regaining contact with nature has made me completely <strong>change the perception of the seasons\u2019 change<\/strong>. I now see the month of September as fruitful in all senses.<\/p>\n<p>I have learned to appreciate the way each season keeps our senses from falling asleep under a blanket of monotony.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0September brings the <strong>harvest of a variety of fruits<\/strong>: apples, pears, figs, plums, grapes, mulberries, pomegranates, quinces, grapes and pumpkins \u2013and also <strong>roots<\/strong> rich in nutrient content.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Indian summer<\/strong> is about to arrive, filling our hearts with an <strong>explosion of colours<\/strong> and late-season sunshine.<\/p>\n<p>To me, the arrival of the harvest stimulates my <strong>creativity<\/strong>. September is the month of<strong> renewed energy<\/strong> after a summer full of sun light, ready to <strong>face a new and exciting a season full of expectations<\/strong> \u2026 what is around the corner?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0September also stimulates me to<strong> invent recipes,<\/strong> making all kinds of <strong>jams<\/strong> and <strong>compotes<\/strong>, and harvesting the first roots for <strong>tinctures<\/strong> and <strong>syrups<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Today I want to invite you to discover the intense flavour of September and the changes the new season can bring.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; color: #ba1e1e;\">How? Here Are Some Ideas<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ba1e1e; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>1.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0Go outside and carefully <strong>observe<\/strong> how the <strong>colours<\/strong> of the leaves start changing.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ba1e1e; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>\u00a02.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<strong>Smell<\/strong> and enjoy the perfumed scent of <strong>freshly picked fruit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ba1e1e; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>3.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0Go out with your basket and try <strong>harvesting any wild fruit<\/strong> you find.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; color: #ba1e1e;\"><strong>4.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0In case you do not have abundant nature nearby, <strong>go to the market<\/strong> and get, for example, good apples from the new harvest, and <strong>prepare a compote<\/strong>. Below is <strong>my favourite recipe<\/strong>. The first time I did it I was stunned by the simplicity and exquisiteness of the final product.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 18pt; color: #ba1e1e;\"><strong>5.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0Do you have relatives and\/or friends celebrating their birthday? Think about <strong>self-made compotes, syrups or jams as a gift<\/strong>. Receiving or giving home- or hand-made gifts make me so happy. It feels like if the person\u2019s heart and energy are put into the making of the product.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ba1e1e; font-size: 18pt;\">The Easiest Apple Compot Recipe Ever<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Ingredients:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 kg apples<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(My favourites: Jonagold, Elstar and Santana, sweet but with a perfect touch of acidity. If you prefer a sweeter taste, Pippin apple would be a good choice).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 cinnamon stick<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rewildingdrum.com\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/photo-1468476055884-fb108236bc9a-R.jpg\"><br \/><\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Peel and cut the apples into pieces.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Put them in a saucepan with the cinnamon stick at medium heat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Stir occasionally with a wooden spoon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Cook until the apples are tender.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Cool and serve.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; If you want, you can make the compote into a puree by just blending it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ba1e1e; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>\u00a0I am sorry but I just can&#8217;t<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0If despite all of these ideas, September and the change of season still depresses you, let me tell you this:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Maybe it is not so much the month or the arrival of autumn itself that overwhelms you, but the <strong>thoughts<\/strong> you have about them \u2013 associating September with unpleasant experiences in your routine and in the past. You only see the negative, and <strong>you forget to love the good things<\/strong> that September gives you every day.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0This same thing happened to me until I began to think the opposite way, focusing on how pleasant the month of September is. <strong>Ceasing to associate the month with reluctance and returning to routine, you can do much to avoid this feeling invading you<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, <strong>only <em>you<\/em> can do it<\/strong>. Nobody will do it for you. The key is in your hand, or rather, in your head.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Create your life<\/strong> \u2013 don\u2019t wait for things to happen to you.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Implement lifestyle changes<\/strong> that give you <strong>energy<\/strong> and make you <strong>happy<\/strong>, like these, for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Move outdoors<\/strong> every day:\u00a0exposure to the elements, such as <strong>sunlight<\/strong> and <strong>fresh air<\/strong>, enriches us and gives us energy the same ways <strong>food<\/strong> does.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Devote at least <strong>an hour a day to something you like that motivates you.<\/strong> We should not waste our lives complaining without doing something, or filling the agenda with things we don\u2019t give a damn about. We shouldn\u2019t keep ourselves busy just for the sake of being busy!\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Take the opportunity to <strong>rethink life<\/strong> and think seriously about what you could do differently. And do it! <strong>Just do it!<\/strong> It takes that first step. It is the only way to get different results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>It\u2019s all about attitude towards life!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Now tell me, how does Autumn taste for you?
