The Pit of Truth Plus DIY Recipes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the moment we start <strong>simplifying<\/strong>, we realize how light our lives feel once we get rid of the unnecessary: clothes, books, junk and more junk that does nothing but hinder us.<\/p>\n<p>Then we arrive at the bathroom. Here too, we can get rid of many cans, bottles and jars. Some of them have even expired. And then we come to that one product that accompanies us during most of our daily routine, <strong>deodorant<\/strong>. Which points to the question: <strong>can we function without it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Without toxic deodorants, we definitely can. Using no deodorant at all <strong>depends<\/strong> on each person\u2019s tolerance for body odor. So, today I bring you some <strong>solutions and alternatives<\/strong>, but first, let\u2019s start from the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ba1616; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Where does the dreaded smell come from?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Talking about deodorant inevitably involves talking about perspiration. But as much as we\u2019d love to avoid it, sweat has a very <strong>important role<\/strong> in the functioning of our body.<\/p>\n<p>The human body secretes for a good reason, and, very often, I cannot help but marvel at its perfect operation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The issue may give us some disgust, but it\u2019s better to analyze it, <strong>understand<\/strong> it, and address it in the most effective ways possible.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ba1616; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Why Do We Perspire?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sweat has <strong>three functions<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To regulate body temperature<\/li>\n<li>To remove waste<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Certain body\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">odors<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0are connected to human\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">sexual<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0attraction.\u00a0In primitive cultures, this smell had a social function which is rejected in our present culture. The smell transmitted signals of danger and responded to the stimulus of stress. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Sweat is composed of <strong>99% water<\/strong>, and doesn\u2019t smell. It is produced by the apocrine sweat glands located primarily in the armpits and around the genitals. \u00a0But where does the unpleasant smell come from that we want to fight at all costs? From <strong>bacteria<\/strong>, which feed from the rich <strong>remaining 1 %<\/strong> (comprised of chlorine, sodium, potassium, lactic acid and ammonia, among others). After the feast, the compounds produced cause the dreaded bad odor.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ba1616; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The best strategy<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The strategy most current deodorants use is to <strong>block the sweat glands with aluminum salts<\/strong>. By the way, the famous Alum or alunite composed of potassium salt, also contains aluminum. According to its manufacturers, the large size of their molecules prevent its penetration into the body, but there is no study to prove that.\u00a0With or without aluminum<strong>, this is not the best option for a deodorant<\/strong>. If we prevent the body from eliminating toxins, they accumulate, and even if the smell can disappear in appearance, the <strong>accumulation of toxins is harmful<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Can you imagine having a <strong>house full of trash bags<\/strong>? Well, it&#8217;s the same!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The <strong>first strategy<\/strong> is <strong>hygiene<\/strong>. The fewer bacteria that accumulate, the less unpleasant odors we will produce. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The <strong>second<\/strong> is to use a <strong>natural deodorant<\/strong> that, as such, must meet the following requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 1. Reduce or mask the odor<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 2. Control the proliferation of bacteria with natural antibacterial substances<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 3. Contains all of those properties without inhibiting perspiration<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Let me share with you some DIY (Do It Yourself) recipes that meet the above mentioned requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">LIQUID DEODORANT\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 100ml of a <strong>hydrosol<\/strong>. Choose among: \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lavender and rose for sensitive skin &#8211; Mint (refreshing) &#8211;\u00a0Witch hazel and neroli (astringents) \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 100ml <strong>infusion<\/strong> of one or more of the following plants: Sage, lavender, thyme, rosemary, or mint combined with:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 1 tablespoon of <strong>vodka<\/strong> to dissolve essential oils (or 1 tablespoon of vinegar if you do not tolerate alcohol)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Antibacterial <strong>essential oils<\/strong>, you can choose one of the combinations you like best:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 20 drops of tea tree \/\u00a020 drops of lemon<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 20 drops of lemon \/ orange 20 drops\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 20 drops of lavender \/ 20 drops orange\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Fill the container with the hydrosol or the infusion.<\/p>\n<p>2. Add the pre-diluted essential oils to the vodka (or vinegar).<\/p>\n<p>3. Shake the mix, and your deodorant is ready to use!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>ROLL ON\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thicken the above mixture with xanthan gum powder, and pour it into a &#8220;roll-on&#8221; type container.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>SOLID DEODORANT\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 30g of coconut oil\u2022 20g of shea butter\u2022 10 grams of sweet almond oil\u2022 10g of beeswax\u2022 20g of arrowroot or cornstarch (corn flour type) that will be used as a thickener and emulsifier\u2022 5 drops of tea tree essential oil \u2022 5 drops of peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita)\u2022 10 drops of lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia)\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Directions<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>1. Melt au bain-marie in a glass container, with coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax in the almond oil.<\/p>\n<p>2. Once everything is melted add the arrowroot or corn starch.<\/p>\n<p>3. Mix until you get a smooth cream.<\/p>\n<p>4. Pour cream into a glass container, preferably opaque.<\/p>\n<p>5. When it starts to solidify on the container walls, add essential oils and remix well again.<\/p>\n<p>(Recipe inspired by French herbalist Christophe Bernard)\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>EXPRESS DEOD\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; Kiki, Sorry but I have no desire or time for all that just to create a deodorant!<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; No problem, check this out:\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>1. Mix in a little container a teaspoon of vegetable glycerine and a teaspoon of aloe vera gel.<\/p>\n<p>2. Apply a little of this mixture in each armpit with a pinch of bicarbonate.<\/p>\n<p>3.
